Rondo reatret centre in Kakamega forest

Rondo retreat centre is located in Kakamega rainforest in the Southern part. It is managed by Trinity fellowship. These is Christian centre, alcoholic drinks are not allowed in these premise.

It is Clean and quirt place for both Missionaries and Tourists visiting Kakamega forest. Rondo retreat it can accommodate up to 35 people and here you can book either full board or half board.

Rondo retreat it is one of the best accommodation in Kakamega rainforest with beautiful flowers, wonderful garden for relaxing and high standard rooms for single, double and triple rooms. The management offer meals either half board or full board. Picnic and Camping is not allowed here.

Some of Tours that are recommended are;

• short walk, We can take you in dense rain forest where you will see old big trees, watch Birds, Butterflies, strangler fics then visit one of the natural grassland get up to canopy watch tower then back for Lunch in Rondo retreat. The walk takes about one to two and half hours
• Sunrise walk, starting at 5:30am then walk to the highest point of Kakamega rainforest known as Lirhanda Hill. Here you will be able to see the all rainforest from the top, view the sunrise if the weather will be clear without clouds, you will Mt. Elgon, Natural grasslands within rainforest, Kakamega town, Nandi escapment, Chapsonoi and Shinyalu market. When we have done, optional visit the Bat cave on the slop of the Hill then there after we will watch Birds, Primates, Butterflies back to Rondo retreat centre for breakfast.
• If you are Missionaries and having meetings in Rondo retreat and love to see the forest we will organize the short time you have to explore about half an hour or even moor depending with your free time.
• Full day walk; we will start from Northern part of Kakamega forest National reserve, where we will visit and see Water falls ad there after get up to Buyangu Hill to view the forest canopy. From here we will proceed in the primary forest where you will be able to see one of the biggest tree that about 14 people can make circle to it. from here we will get back to Rondo retreat for Lunch. After lunch we will leave at 4:00pm to Lirhanda Hill for sunset walk. When we have done we will get as we watch birds and the also see fire flies and if lucky see some of nocturnal animals back to Rondo retreat centre for dinner.
• Another excursion we may take out of the forest to visit the Crying Stone of Ilesi. Naturally tall stone about 10m resemble Human. Also in the same area, visit natural cave which is mostly visited by Christians for special prayer. The tour can take about 3 to 4 hours.

It is recommended also by those visitors who have already visited the place, chake Rondo retreat on trip adviser. Here you should book first before coming.

Guiding fee for Nature Walks/Hiking in Kakamega forest Residents

• Short walk 0-2 hours - Ksh 500 per person per walk
• Long walk 0-3 hours - Ksh 1000 per person per walk
• Night walk 2 hours - Ksh 1200 per person per walk
• Sunrise/sunset walk - Ksh 1200 per person per walk
• Full day walk 5-7 hours Ksh 2000 per person per walk

In the southern part of the forest, Isecheno forest station, a recreation fee of (400ksh residents) or (600ksh non residents) must be paid to the Kenya Forestry Service (KFS).

And the north side of the forest KWS Kakamega Forest national reserve entrance fee must be paid at the gate.

The Rondo retreat Management also it support conservation of Kakamega rainforest together with Kakamega Rainforest Tour Guides, rehabilitating the open area by planting indigenous trees to increase forest cover.

Operating hours

Forest reserve is open 365 days a year, even holidays, from 8am till 6pm. It is possible to arrive earlier for a sunrise walk, or to come for a night walk, but please book ahead of time.
